Broken Garage Springs Replacement Villa Park IL

You might think your garage door is safe until it tries to chop off your body part. Routine inspection of garage doors is important to avoid unnecessary accidents. A lot of wearing and tearing occurs on almost all parts of a garage door, including garage door springs. During closure of a garage, any of your springs could break down.

There are several ways in which springs could be replaced without having to get hurt or others being hurt. Even if you are not willing to fix or replace your broken springs, at least you are supposed to know when they are unsafe. Tools such as socket wrench, step stool, ladder, new garage door springs, lineman’s pliers, two clamps and crescent wrench can be used in the spring replacement process.

Spotting a damaged garage door spring for replacement is easy. If the springs’ coils are irregular when extension of the springs is done, then it will need replacement. This can only be seen when your garage door is in a closed position. Safety cable that runs through the extension spring should be removed. Bolts that holds the pulley in place should be loosened using wrenches.

Taping the steel cable to the pulley wheel is recommended to enable you easily attach the pulley to the new spring. Picture of how the safety cable is tied should be taken to enable you know how the cable would be reattached after its removal. Have the safety cable unties from the bracket and pull it through the broken spring.

After that is done, removal of pulley clip from the damaged spring should be done and taking the spring down off the bolt. Most garage door springs have color codes to allow you to easily pick out the replacement springs in less time. Both springs should be replaced since the garage door won’t close well if one of its springs has more tension than the other.

Safety during the replacement should be a priority. Your care should never be in the garage during garage springs replacement. The ladder should be placed directly under the garage door opening. Have the garage door opener unplugged and avoid any closure of the garage door when the door is being worked on.

Before starting any work, make sure you double check that the door would land on the ladder. Place C – Clamps on both sides of the garage door track.
